Topics in Medicine and Surgery Wildlife Zoonoses for the Veterinary Practitioner

چکیده
Journal of E Abstract There is increasing concern regarding wildlife zoonoses. It is important that veterinarians are able to give their clients and the general public appropriate advice regarding the potential risks, what to do in the event of possible exposure, input regarding early recognition of the signs of wildlife zoonotic infections, and practical advice to prevent or reduce exposure to wildlife zoonotic pathogens. This advice is summarized for a variety of wildlife zoonoses in North America including rabies, hantavirus, tularemia, plague, psittacosis, baylisascaris, alveolar echinococcosis, arthropod-borne encephalitis, tick-borne diseases, and food safety related to game meat. This is a US government work. There are no restrictions on its use.

A fundamental role of the veterinary profession is the protection of human health through wholesome food and control of diseases of animal origin, especially zoonoses. Therefore, training of veterinary students worldwide needs to face the new challenges posed by emerging infections, both from wildlife and domestic animals, as well as risks from bio/agroterrorism. New courses emphasising recogni...

The concept of "One Medicine" embodies the view that human and veterinary medicine are dependent on an overlapping collection of biological characteristics, technologies and research discoveries. The phrase "One Medicine" is credited to Dr. Calvin Schwabe (1927–2006) , a veterinary epidemiologist and parasitologist in his textbook "Veterinary Medicine and Human Health". 1 Scientific advances ha...

By using the criteria that define emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) of humans, we can identify a similar group of EIDs in wildlife. In the current review we highlight an important series of wildlife EIDs: amphibian chytridiomycosis; diseases of marine invertebrates and vertebrates and two recently-emerged viral zoonoses, Nipah virus disease and West Nile virus disease. These exemplify the var...

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of enterotoxigenic and enteroaggregative strains ofEscherichia coli in chicken carcasses by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In this study 63 strains of E. coliwere isolated from 110 samples of chicken carcasses during processing after chilling in the poultry slaughterhouse of Shahrekord. Polymerase chain reaction assays were used to detect t...
